IMANA & THE FIRST LIGHT
The fictional mythology of the story chronicles the tale of Imana, the wielder of the first light. Imana was God's first daughter, and on her very first birthday he gifted her with the sun and tasked her to protect it. As it’s guardian and protector, Imana was tasked to rise and set the sun everyday, and it is by dancing for the sun that Imana wielded it to rise and set one day after another. Inspired by precolonial mythology and set within a landscape inspired by the mountains of central Africa, the series chronicles Imana’s task of wielding the sun to make sure it sets on time through portraiture in which the colors reminiscing of the sunset bring the narrative back into perspective.
